Sita left India in 1996 to find work in Ireland. She remained in there for 14 years but then lost her job. With no employment, her visa expired and left her and her children in a difficult situation as they became undocumented. A friend recommended that Sita consult with IOM. She made an appointment and learned that her family could be assisted in returning to India. Sita was also excited to learn that she could apply for a reintegration grant.
After returning, Sita and her children received family support until she applied for the reintegration grant. Because she had no experience and insufficient funds, Sita knew that she did not want to start a business. Instead, she decided to use the grant to take a business management course. She also paid the school fees for both her children. “This was a great help, as it reduced the financial burden on me and gave me time to look for employment.”
Six months after Sita returned, IOM staff in India contacted her. She explained that as soon as her course was completed, she would begin working as a project coordinator at a multimedia company. “If people who are considering return to India feel that life will be good here, they can return home. IOM’s assistance in this regard is very helpful.”
“I look forward to completing my Business Management course and finding a better job.”
