After living in Ireland for some time, David was struggling with his mental health and decided it was time to return home to his family and friends. He reached out to IOM for support and applied for the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration program. The IOM team guided him throughout the application process, including arranging a full health assessment prior to travel. Once he was deemed fit-to-travel, IOM quickly arranged his journey home.
Unfortunately, on the day of his departure, David experienced a severe panic attack that left him unable to board the plane. IOM staff, who were assisting him at the airport, acted quickly by calling an ambulance and accompanying him to the hospital for necessary care. Once stabilized, IOM worked closely with the Repatriation Unit of the Department of Justice, to arrange suitable accommodation where David could fully recover from his mental health crisis.
When David felt ready, IOM rescheduled his flights and organized a Medical Escort to accompany him throughout his journey, ensuring he felt safe and supported at every stage. This time David departed without any complications and is now reunited with his loved ones in his home country. Since his return, he has been using his IOM reintegration grant to rebuild his career in the IT sector.
