When they could not find work in 2006, Isolda and Artur came to Ireland to find better economic opportunities. In 2010, Isolda and Artur were not earning enough to support themselves, and they missed their daughter who had remained in Moldova with her grandparents. They wanted to return to their family but could not afford the cost of travel.

Isolda heard about IOM from friends, and made an appointment for her and Artur to apply for return assistance. Because of their financial situation, they were eligible for the programme. They were also able to apply for a reintegration grant after they returned.

In Moldova, Isolda and Artur moved back in with family while they planned their future business. With help from friends, they decided to start a garlic farm on their family’s land. With the grant, they purchased a water pump to irrigate the field.

After six months, IOM staff visited Isolda and Artur to monitor their business. The farm was covering costs and providing income for the family. They hope to save enough to expand their field and plant fruit trees.
