Huang Fu left China in 2003 and came to Ireland to find better work opportunities. He lived in Ireland for eight years as an irregular migrant. In 2011, he lost his job and was unable to find another for several months. He could not support himself any longer, and realized that he needed to return to China. Huang Fu had heard about IOM services from friends, and knew that he could apply for a reintegration grant to help him establish himself in China. After eight years away, he said that knowing he could apply for training helped decide that return was the best option for him.

Before returning, Huang Fu tried to research the economy in China to find out what training might help him best get a job. He said that he could not find enough information from Ireland because it was “too limited.” However, Huang Fu was sure that he wanted to return to China permanently. He received a plane ticket, and decided to apply for the grant after he returned.

Huang Fu could not find work immediately after he arrived in China. He lived with his parents and received assistance from them during the first few months of his return. He applied for the reintegration grant so that he could receive driver’s training, and begin to work for a taxi or delivery company. Six months later, Huang Fu reported to IOM staff that the training was been “helpful” in his job search, though it is still hard to get hired.

Huang Fu intends to stay in China to look for driving work. He does not want to immigrate again.
