João spent about a year and a half in Ireland. After losing his job, he found himself homeless and chose not to inform his family or friends about his struggles. When he eventually lost contact with them, his friends and the Brazilian community in Ireland began searching for him until he was finally located. Due to severe mental health issues, he received psychiatric treatment in Dublin and was stabilized.
With the coordination of the Department of Justice, IOM Ireland supported João through the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) Programme, arranging his return to Brazil, including a medical escort for the journey. He also received a reintegration grant as part of the programme to cover medical expenses for his recovery.
IOM Ireland is pleased to share that João is now on the path to recovery and has been reunited with his family. He has also chosen to continue his journey by enrolling in educational courses, giving him hope for a brighter future.
