Ardian came to Ireland in 2010 to seek asylum and remained living in an accommodation centre while his application was processed. A year after he arrived, however, he learned that a close family member had suddenly passed away. Ardian needed to return to Albania to support his family, but had not been working in Ireland. He found himself without the means to leave Ireland, and approached his immigration officers for assistance. They directed him to the IOM office in Dublin, and Ardian made an appointment to speak with staff there.

IOM assisted Ardian in purchasing his flight, and also provided information about the reintegration grant. Ardian felt more optimistic about returning with the ability to start a business, as he needed to help support his family in Albania. Through the grant, he received tools to begin an independent construction business. He reports that he now earns enough through construction contracts to cover the needs of himself and his relatives.

Because there is a great deal of competition for construction work, Ardian is now saving to begin a small farm, which he hopes will earn more for his family. He also hopes to have the opportunity to travel abroad again someday to find work.
