A young mother and her two children sought refuge in Ireland after experiencing domestic violence in their home country. After some time, she decided that returning home, where she could rely on the support of her extended family and friends, was the best choice for her and her children.
She contacted IOM Ireland and applied for the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration program. During the application process, the mother revealed that she and her children were struggling with mental health issues and had concerns about returning. IOM arranged comprehensive medical assessments to ensure they were fit to fly and facilitated discussions with IOM staff from her home country to help the family feel secure about their return. Additionally, IOM worked with the relevant Embassy to obtain emergency travel documents.
On the day of departure, IOM staff provided assistance at the airport, ensuring a smooth boarding process. The family, eager to reconnect with their support network, has since returned home and is now using their reintegration grant to promote mental health awareness in their community.
