Amare arrived in Ireland seeking refuge from the instability and insecurity in his home country. Having studied in Ireland a few years earlier, he was confident in his ability to integrate into the community and looked forward to enjoying a safer and more stable life.

However, the prolonged asylum process left him feeling disheartened and deepened his sense of loneliness, which took a toll on both his mental and physical health.

Ultimately, Amare decided he would be better off returning to his family and applied for the IOM’s Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration Programme. Before his departure, IOM Ireland arranged for a thorough medical assessment to ensure he was fit to travel, facilitating a safe and dignified return.

Now reunited with his family, Amare is using his reintegration grant to improve his ICT skills, with the goal of securing a career in internet security.
